WordPress Website Development That Works for Your Business

Your website should be easy for customers to use and practical for your team to update. We plan, design, build and improve WordPress websites around your services, content and day-to-day workflow. Whether you need a new site, a careful rebuild or a better version of what you already have, we start with what the website must accomplish.

  • New websites and redesigns
  • WordPress migrations
  • Custom themes and editable blocks
  • WooCommerce
  • Speed and SEO foundations
  • Ongoing support

Where most projects begin

Does your WordPress site make simple work difficult?

Most WordPress projects do not start with a blank page. They start with a site that works, up to a point. These are the problems we are usually asked to solve:

  1. Nobody can safely update a page

Changing a sentence means opening a page builder, finding the right box and hoping the layout stays intact. We build editing controls and reusable layouts around the changes your team actually makes.

  2. Visitors cannot find the service they need

If every offer is squeezed onto one homepage, customers have to hunt for answers and search engines have fewer useful pages to show. We organise services, locations and supporting information into a clear, linked structure.

  3. The site looks good but enquiries get lost

A visitor should know what to do next. We make contact routes clear, place relevant calls to action on important pages and test where form submissions go.

  4. Pages feel slow, especially on mobile

The cause may be large images, an overloaded theme, overlapping plugins, third-party scripts or hosting. We investigate before prescribing a fix, then measure the changes on real pages.

  5. The site has become fragile

Old plugins, unknown licences, unclear account ownership and missing documentation make each update feel risky. We review the setup and explain what should be kept, replaced or removed.

Scope

WordPress Development Services

The right scope depends on what you already have and what the next version needs to do. We agree the pages, features, content responsibilities, reviews and launch requirements before development begins.

  • New WordPress websites

We build business websites around the questions buyers bring to the page: what you do, who it is for, how it works, why they should trust you and how to get in touch. The build can include a homepage, individual service pages, about and contact pages, case studies, articles and landing pages, according to the agreed page plan.

The result is a coherent website, not a theme demo with your logo added.

  • WordPress redesigns and rebuilds

If your existing site has useful content or search traffic, we review it before replacing anything. We identify pages worth keeping, what should be rewritten, where the navigation breaks down and whether the theme or editor is limiting the team. A rebuild should solve a real problem without discarding valuable work.

  • Custom themes, templates and content blocks

We can build a custom theme, extend a well-supported theme with a child theme or improve an existing setup. Reusable templates and WordPress blocks or patterns can make it easier to add service pages, locations, team profiles and articles without rebuilding a layout every time. We choose the editing approach to fit your content team and the site you already own.

  • WordPress migrations

Moving from another platform or changing a WordPress setup involves more than copying text. We plan the page mapping, content transfer, image and document handling, URL changes, redirects, forms, analytics and launch checks. If an existing URL can stay, we assess whether changing it is necessary at all.

  • WooCommerce websites

For stores, we scope the product catalogue, categories, product details, cart, checkout, payment methods, shipping or delivery rules, transactional emails and the admin work your team will do. We test the purchase journey before launch. More complex store requirements are covered on our Ecommerce Development page.

  • Forms, integrations and practical functionality

Quote forms, bookings, job listings, directories, membership areas and connections to existing tools can be included when they serve a defined workflow. We review plugin options and supported integrations first; custom functionality is scoped where a standard tool is a poor fit.

Built in, not bolted on

Speed, Accessibility and Security Are Part of the Build

  • Measure performance, then improve the cause

We review representative pages on mobile and desktop, then address issues such as image weight, fonts, scripts, plugin load, caching and hosting configuration. Core Web Vitals help us understand loading, responsiveness and layout stability. We can establish a baseline and record what changed; a particular score or ranking cannot be promised for every device and network.

  • Make important journeys usable

Navigation, buttons, forms and the checkout or enquiry path should work across screen sizes and input methods. We check sensible heading order, text contrast, visible keyboard focus, form labels, useful error messages and alt text where relevant. Formal accessibility audits or compliance targets can be scoped explicitly for projects that need them.

  • Give the site an upkeep plan

WordPress core, themes and plugins need attention after launch. We review access levels, updates, backups, restore arrangements and security settings as part of the agreed setup. If we are maintaining the site, we define what is monitored, what gets updated, how incidents are handled and who owns the licences and accounts.

At handover, your team can

  • Update a page
  • Add an article
  • Replace an image
  • Check an enquiry
  • Manage the relevant accounts

For the people who run the site

Easy for Your Team to Edit. Consistent for Your Visitors.

A business should not need a developer for every new article, service description or team update. At the same time, editing one paragraph should not accidentally change the whole design.

We set up repeatable templates and clear content fields for the changes your team expects to make. We work with the WordPress block editor, custom templates and existing page-builder setups, including Elementor, where they make sense. If changing tools would improve maintainability, we explain the effort and trade-offs first.

At handover, your team can see how to perform the actual tasks it owns: update a page, add an article, replace an image, check an enquiry and manage the relevant accounts. You retain access to the website, hosting and domain; any paid theme or plugin dependencies are identified.

Choosing a starting point

Build, Improve or Maintain: What Fits Your Site?

  1. Build or rebuild

Choose this when the content structure no longer fits the business, the design does not support your services or the current theme and editor make routine changes too difficult. We plan the new page system and map what needs to move.

  2. Improve the existing site

Choose this when the foundation is sound but specific pages, forms, mobile layouts, speed or editing workflows need work. We prioritise the problems and fix them without automatically proposing a full rebuild.

  3. Maintain and extend

Choose this when the site works and you need dependable updates, backups, new pages and steady improvements. The work and response arrangements are agreed in the maintenance scope.

Process

How a WordPress Project Runs

Two people sketching a page layout on a whiteboard
  1. Review the current position.

We look at the existing site, audience, content, search and analytics data when available, and the tasks your team needs to perform.

  2. Agree the page and feature plan.

We define page types, navigation, editing requirements, integrations, content ownership and what success means for the site.

  3. Design with real content.

We work from your services and buyer questions, deciding what you supply and what we create. Important page layouts are reviewed before build-out.

  4. Build and preview.

We develop the agreed templates and functionality in a working environment so you can click through the site and comment on real pages.

  5. Test and correct.

We review mobile and desktop layouts, navigation, forms, key interactions, accessibility basics and representative page performance. For ecommerce we also test the buying path.

  6. Prepare the launch.

We check backups, redirects if URLs changed, search visibility settings, analytics, forms and delivery to a mailbox your team controls. You approve before publication.

  7. Hand over or support.

We provide access and practical editing guidance, then either maintain the site under an agreed scope or leave your team ready to run it.

Questions

Common Questions About WordPress Development

Discuss a WordPress Project

Can you take over a WordPress site built by someone else?

Yes. We first review the theme, plugins, access, hosting, content and known problems. Then we set out the changes we recommend and what depends on access or third-party licences.

Should we rebuild the site or fix the one we have?

We recommend a rebuild when the underlying page structure or editing system is the main obstacle. If the site is basically sound, focused improvements to content, templates, forms or speed may be the better first step.

Can you preserve our SEO when redesigning or migrating?

We examine existing search pages and URLs before making changes, keep useful pages where possible, map redirects when URLs must change, and check indexing after launch. A redesign can still affect search performance, so no one can guarantee unchanged rankings.

Do you use Elementor or the WordPress block editor?

Both, depending on the site. We can work in an existing Elementor build, use the native block editor and patterns, or develop custom templates. We recommend the setup that your team can use and maintain.

Will we be able to update the website ourselves?

Yes. We agree which content your team needs to control and make those tasks straightforward. We also show you how to use the pages and fields built for your site.

Can you build landing pages for Google or Meta ads?

Yes. We can build dedicated pages with a focused offer, relevant proof and a clear action, then configure agreed enquiry tracking. Campaign management and ad spend are separate from the website build unless included in the project scope.

Can you add ecommerce, bookings or a member area?

Yes, when the requirements are defined. We review the products, payments, permissions, notifications and tools involved before deciding whether a supported plugin, integration or custom development is appropriate.

What does SEO-ready mean here?

It means the site has a useful page structure and agreed technical basics such as readable URLs, internal links, mobile usability, appropriate metadata, crawl access and redirects where needed. Keyword research, ongoing content and link acquisition are separate SEO activities.

Who owns the site and accounts?

You retain control of your domain, hosting and WordPress admin accounts. We identify any third-party subscriptions or licences the site relies on and agree ownership and renewal responsibilities before handover.

What do you need from us to get started?

Send your current URL if you have one, what the site should help people do, your main services, any brand or content material, and the issues your team faces. We will identify missing inputs during discovery rather than fill them with unapproved assumptions.
